Matt Wagner came to one of my classes a few weeks ago and gave a great lecture about his career and the comics industry in general.
he talked at length about his own creations, Grendel and Mage. Having read all of Mage and only a couple issues of Grendel: Red White and Black, I looked up some of the much older, out of print stuff.
I can see why it has such a huge place in modern comics history, but sweet christ, some of this artwork…
